Kindergarten lottery FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Maplewood 2019-2020 Kindergarten Lottery

When will you be doing the lottery?

The Kindergarten lottery for 2019-20 will occured in early February 2019. You must have taken a tour by January 17th, 2019 to have been eligible for the kindergarten lottery. You are welcome to attend a tour if you have missed the deadline, but you would only be eligible for any later drawings that may be necessary.

How many Kindergarten spots are available to be drawn in 2019-20?

We drew for 18  available spots for the Kindergarten lottery drawing. There were 192 total entries in the Kindergarten lottery this year.

How will I know if my child was drawn in the lottery?

If you did not receive a phone call from our office by mid-March 2019, unfortunately, you were not drawn for the 2019-20 Kindergarten lottery. You will receive a post card by late March 2019, informing you that you were not drawn.

Should I call the school office?

No need to call our school office, we will contact you by phone/email if your child was drawn in the Lottery.

I need to know if my child got in so I can register my child for our neighborhood school.

Register your child for your neighborhood school.  Do not wait to hear from us.  It is simple to withdraw your child from your neighborhood school, if you do happen to get “the call”.

What if I have a child in the lottery for a grade other than kindergarten?

Lottery enrollment at all other grade levels is dependent on available space and therefore unpredictable. We only draw from the lotteries when a space becomes available. Once the sibling lottery pool is exhausted for a grade level, then we would draw from the general lottery pool. The vast majority our openings are from the Kindergarten lottery.
